tag! i’m it!

i got tagged on a couple fun things, you know, because the joy of slam books didn’t stop in 7th grade (love them!). this kind of procrastination is almost as fun as a milkshake would be if, say, i weren’t still off sweets until easter (gah!). sweet spring comings, sweet milkshake drinkings. will i ever find there’s more to life than a pretty day and a sweety yum yum? anyway, onto business…

pwadj tagged me with this one:

1. pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. open the book to page 123.
3. find the fifth sentence.
4. post the next three sentences.
5. tag five people.

totally wanted to cheat and read through every book and find the best one, but i guess that defeats the purpose—although neither laura kasischke’s fire & flower or richard siken’s crush had enough pages and on p. 123 of patti smith’s early work 1970-1979, there was a photo—so an audubon handbook: western birds wins!

here are the three sentences after the fifth sentence (bird: the clapper rail, which i don’t believe i’ve ever seen):

“Holds dull bill angled down. Adults (1) brown above, with back streaked dark brown on gray-brown; breast and neck rufous-brown or buff-brown; throat whitish; flanks barred white on olive-brown; bill fairly long and stout, slightly drooped; have sturdy legs and large feet, without webs. Juvenile smaller, with developing bill; fairly uniform dusky gray-brown; large feet and legs.”

then, my dear long lost pal lynn, of handwording, tagged me with this:

Borrowing, with permission from bookbabie, the following fabulous idea: what would you say if you had to summarize your life in only six words? Bookbabie got the idea from a book written by Larry Smith and Rachel Fershleiser, Not Quite What I was Expecting: Six Word Memoirs by Famous and Obscure. It is a compilation based on the story that Hemingway once bet ten dollars that he could sum up his life in six words. His words were- For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.

Here are the rules:

1. Write your own six-word memoir
2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like
3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to this original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere
4. Tag five more blogs with links
5. And don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play! (although i did not do this)

again, i totally want to work on this for like a year. i wanted to come up with the perfect one, but alas, this is a game, and so this is it:

today’s six-word memoir is: Bird-chasing makes happy boys, unfinished novels.

my five tags: pwadj (the tagging never ends), shari, camera shy momma, phoesable, adriana

from 40 watts from nowhere, by sue carpenter:

“in the year and a half kblt has been on the air, a few more pirates have jumped on the bandwagon in los angeles. almost all of us are on the same frequency, but we are far enough apart and at low enough powers that we’re not really interfering with one another. the guy who set up the jumbotron rig for the billboard club is running a station out of his hosue in burbank, five miles north of kblt.”

in case anyone’s interested, it’s a really good book about music and pirate radio. :)

What’s a slam book? (and since I am not even sure how one plays blog tag, color me mystified but curious…)

Wow — thanks for thinking of me. I accept your tag and will use it to bring springtime (sometime in the next week) to my long-lonely, quiet and dark blog.
